How To Pray The Lord's Prayer
We can only touch upon the outlne that Jesus gave on this page (detailed teaching and instruction with
illustrations are in the eBook, "Lord Teach Us To Pray - The Lord's
Prayer" but nevertheless, even a basic outline can be helpful.
Basically the prayer provides a definite track for the disciple to 'run' around.

Our Father in heaven
- We begin our journey into God's presence by acknowledging Him as Father. In this we recognise that we are
coming someone who loves and accepts us, not some distant and disinterested deity. It is a place of security
and openness.
- Take time to thank God for the blood of Jesus that made this relationship possible.
Hallowed by thy Name
- Our Father goes by many names is the Bible, each of them with Covenant promises wrapped in them. Take time
to honour His names and the Covenant promises they represent to us. This is a time where we really recall the
powerful reality of who we are in Christ, and who our God is to us.
Thy Kingdom come, Thy Will be done
- Here, a work of intercession takes place, we participate with the Father to establish His will in the earth
through prayer: in our own lives, the lives of our loved ones, our city, nation and the world. The book,
"Lord, Teach Us To Pray - The Lord's Prayer", covers a strategy for
effective prayer in more detail, but this is basically where we take God's will and Word and drive our stake
into the ground, declaring it to be so.
Give us this day our daily bread
- Praying and claiming provison according to the promise of God, remembering that life consists of more
than physical neccessities; we are a spirit, have a soul, and live in a body. This is where we petition the
Lord for all our needs to be met, believe and receive them according to His promises. The Prayer manual contains Scripture references that clearly promise provision to
the believer, and provide a solid foundation for confidence when we come to God with our requests.
And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive others who trespass against
us
- Here we search our hearts and allow the Holy Spirit to minister healing and forgiveness. The key element is
not just in our vertical relationship (us and God) but also in our horizontal relationships (with other
people). This keeps our hearts supple and malleable in the Father's hand.
For thine is the Kingdom and the Power and the Glory Forever and
ever
- By this time you will be hard pressed not to praise Him. From your heart will flow and issue streams of
thanksgiving and praise for our God and His goodness.
- An eternal perspective is reached and we look at life not through our circumsatnces but through the eyes of
a child loved by a graet and mighty Father who provides for every need.
Amen
- And AMEN!!! So let it be.
