A Bible Concordance is very useful tool to help in your Bible studies, and they are very easy to use. There are different concordances for different versions, but in this post we will concentrate on the most popular concordances that correspond to the King James Version of the Bible. The most used are Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance, and Young’s Analytical Concordance.
What does a Concordance do?
Basically a concordance will list all of the words that appear in the Bible, and where they appear. These are listed alphabetically, similar to a dictionary.
In this way one can discover what the Bible says about any particular word or subject very quickly and easily.
The Hebrew and the Greek
A good concordance also has Hebrew and Greek lexicons, which allow you to discover what the words in the original languages mean. This is accomplished by listing a reference number next to each word listed in the dictionary listings. This number corresponds to either the Hebrew (for Old Testament references) and Greek (for New Testament references). Then, once you have found the word you are looking for listed, you can scan across and see what reference number is there, and then turn to that number in the Hebrew or Greek.
Doing this can really help you to understand and draw the richness of the original meanings of the words you are studying.
Computer Bible Concordances
Many computer programs and online Bible resources also include Strong’s or other concordances, and Hebrew and Greek Lexicons. With these, discovering the listings of words and their meanings is simply a matter of entering the word in a search box or a couple of clicks of the mouse.
