Bible Timeline VII – Bible History the Typical Principle

Throughout the Scriptures God paints prophetic pictures, which display for us the blueprint of divine history. Just as Jesus Himself spoke in parables as He taught during His three years of ministry, so our Father in Heaven has spoken in parables played out on the world stage.

NB: We must be careful not to allegorise* the words of Scripture to the point where we are giving meanings far beyond their intended purpose, or spiritualising clear practical teachings, stripping them of their potency.

The Week of Human History

Peter gives us a key to prophetic understanding when he says:
“But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.”  2 Peter 3:8

There is much Scriptural evidence for a framework of sevens; seven day week, seven I AM’s in John, seven churches in Revelation etc.

The panoramic plan of God can also be seen as a period of seven 1000 years periods, the full week coming to completion after the 1000 year millennial reign of Christ (4000 years before Christ, 2000 year church age, 1000 year Sabbath reign of Christ on earth). This can also be seen in the dimensions of the Tabernacle (Hebrews 9:9 ) (Outer Court 4000 sq cubits, Inner Court 2000 sq cubits, holy of holies 1000 sq cubits). We also see God’s declaration in Genesis 6:3 where He states that the days of man shall be 120 years. This could be interpreted to mean 120 jubilee years (120 x 50 years = 6000 years as the years of man’s lease on the earth, followed by the return of Christ and the remaining 1000 year Kingdom reign).

The Feasts of Israel, The Temple and Tabernacle and their furniture, also contain typical and symbolic elements which speak of God’s wider purposes and plans throughout the ages.
