Speaking in tongues has been a matter of debate and sometimes argument among scholars and different denominations for many years. However, the Scriptures are not double minded about the subject. Tongues are a gift of the Holy Spirit available for any follower of Jesus Christ who will believe Him for it.

Peter the apostle said,

“For the promise [of the Holy Spirit] is to and for you and your children, and to and for all that are far away, [even] to and for as many as the Lord our God invites and bids to come to Himself.”  (Acts 2:39)

Tongues, speaking in tongues, praying in the Spirit, Glossolalia – this gift of God is described in many ways, but two things are certain – It is Biblical, and it is for today!

In truth, I don’t think any gift has impacted my life so much as the wonderful gift of speaking in tongues. It has led me to experience and explore more of the spirit realm and the possibilities of intimacy with God than any other blessing.

Tongues – Something Powerful and Supernatural - A Short Testimony

I have benefitted so much from the exercise of tongues in my life as a believer, a pastor (of four congregations in different areas of the UK over the past 12 years), and in every other area of my life.

Paul the Apostle said that when we speak in tongues we “edify” ourselves (1 Corinthians 14:4). And this ability to ‘build ourselves up’ spiritually is just one of the many benefits of exercising this supernatural gift, given by the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him.

Before I became a Christian I always believed that Christianity was dead religion, and that other spiritual paths were more switched on to the reality of the spiritual world around us. How wrong I was!

The night I accepted Jesus Christ I encountered the presence of God in such a dramatic way it radically changed my life. I knew nothing of this thing called ‘tongues’, but without any prompting or prior knowledge began to speak fluently in a language with utterances I had never learned nor understood with my natural mind.

It was only afterwards as I sought out what the Bible said about such encounters that I discovered many Scriptures that referred to tongues. What amazed me most was that the Bible had so much to say about the reality of the supernatural, and how the gift of tongues can bring us into contact with that reality.

INTERVIEWER: In one sentence, tell us what Insprints is all about.

JIMMY D. BROWN: Insprints is a monthly membership that entitles members to download, print and sell inspirational artwork.

INTERVIEWER: The same kind of artwork that you would find in Christian bookstores?

JIMMY D. BROWN: Yes, the same kind. The only difference is, our artwork is only available through Insprints members and not through a large wholesaler which is where most bookstores buy their products. But as far as design and quality, the artwork is similar to what you’d find in retail locations.

INTERVIEWER: Where do you get your artwork?

JIMMY D. BROWN: We commission artists to create exclusive and original oil paintings based on our specific instructions and feedback throughout the creation process. The art pieces are then scanned into digital format, enhanced and adorned with Bible verses.

INTERVIEWER: Then members download and print them?

JIMMY D. BROWN: Yes, members click on a link that we send to their email address. This transfers the artwork to their computer. After that, it’s just a matter of printing out the artwork on their printer. ANY printer will work … we’ve created beautiful prints even on a $29 inkjet printer from Wal-Mart.

INTERVIEWER: Really? Even those inexpensive printers? How does that work?

JIMMY D. BROWN: The designs themselves are created with very high resolution so the color looks very good regardless of what printer you use. When you set the printer settings to “highest quality”, we’ve yet to see a printout that didn’t look beautiful … even on regular copy paper.

INTERVIEWER: So, it’s very inexpensive as a result?

JIMMY D. BROWN: That’s exactly right. An 8″X10″ print costs less than a quarter.

INTERVIEWER: So, what then? You wouldn’t just sell the print straight from the printer, would you?

JIMMY D. BROWN: No, not straight from the printer, but almost. Once you’ve printed it, you would either insert it immediately into a frame or you would use a “mat kit” for the print.

INTERVIEWER: For those who don’t know what a “mat kit” is, could you describe it?

JIMMY D. BROWN: Sure. A “mat kit” consists of a mat, a backing and a sealable polybag. What you do is take a couple of pieces of tape to affix the print to the mat. A couple more pieces of tape are used to attach the backing to give it a sturdy, professional look. Then you simply insert it into the polybag. It’s ready to sell at that point.

INTERVIEWER: That sounds very easy. How long does it take?

JIMMY D. BROWN: It IS very easy. Even my ten year old can do it. It takes about a minute. In fact, we have a training video at our site which shows the entire process.

INTERVIEWER: Okay, so at this point they’ve downloaded the print. They’ve printed it out and either put it into a picture frame or a “mat kit”. I know the next question that people are thinking, so I’ve gotta ask it: what now? How do they sell them?

JIMMY D. BROWN: If they have their own retail store, then it’s just a matter of displaying them in their store for regular customers to purchase. Of course, owning a retail store isn’t a requirement. This is a perfect “work from home” business. We have five training reports which teach members in a step-by-step format how to sell the prints in a variety of ways ranging from flea markets and craft malls to retail locations to fundraisers to in-home events and more.

INTERVIEWER: So you’ve got this covered?

JIMMY D. BROWN: Yes, absolutely.

INTERVIEWER: What makes this business opportunity different from others?

JIMMY D. BROWN: There are a lot of things that are unique about the business, but there are two that stand out in my mind as significant – profitability and setup.

INTERVIEWER: Okay, explain.

JIMMY D. BROWN: Well in terms of profitability, the profit margin is very nice for these designs. An 11″X14″ double matted design in a polybag has a retail value of $24.99. They cost about $2.00 – $2.50 to create. So, if you sell the $24.99 product for a huge discount price of $10.00 and you only have $2.00 in it, you’ve got a 500% markup. That’s a very nice return.

INTERVIEWER: Most retailers have a 100% markup don’t they?

JIMMY D. BROWN: That’s the aim in a lot of instances. If you sell something for $10, you probably have $5 in it. In this case if you sell it for $10, you have $2 in it.

INTERVIEWER: You say that you have $2 in it, how does that work?

JIMMY D. BROWN: An 8″X10″ print costs about a quarter. An 11″X14″ double matted “mat kit” costs about $1.75-$2.25 depending on where you get them and how many you buy. So after you spend the minute assembling the kit you have $2.00-$2.50 in it.

INTERVIEWER: That’s amazing. Do you tell members where they can buy these “mat kits” and even picture frames like you buy them?

JIMMY D. BROWN: Yes, we give them our exact sources so they can use the same vendors we use.

INTERVIEWER: Jimmy, we’re about out of time, so let me ask one final question: is this really a “Christian” business opportunity or is that just an angle to get church folks to join you?

JIMMY D. BROWN: It’s most definitely a “Christian” business. I’ve been a believer since 1984 and am active in my church. I teach adult Bible studies, have been on mission trips from local to international, publish a Christian newsletter and try to live out my faith in everything I do. Our goal with this business is to give believers an opportunity to generate supplemental or full-time income and, more importantly, to get Scripture into homes everywhere to remind us all of our Savior and His teachings.

INTERVIEWER: Jimmy, it’s been great talking with you today. Thanks for joining us.

JIMMY D. BROWN: It’s been my pleasure. Thanks for having me.

How can I know Jesus Christ?

Thankfully we can know God, not just know about Him. Religion would like to keep you at a distance, but Jesus Christ does not!

A definite call has been sent out to anyone who will respond. It is an invite to know God for yourself, not as some distant religious icon, but up close and personal. Are you ready?

The Bible clearly says that God so loved the world that He gave His only son, that whoever, that means absolutely whoever, believes in Him, will not perish but have everlasting life.

For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16)

Not by any virtue of our own, but by simple faith, you can accept this invitation. Thousands upon thousands of people are striving every moment under the heavy yoke of religion, trying to earn their place with God. Jesus, on the other hand, offers entrance into God’s family and Kingdom, as a free gift.

God saved you by his special favor when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so that we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. (Ephesians 2:8-10)

Whatever price we had to pay, whatever sins buffeted our conscience, not one of them can keep us from stepping into God’s plan and desire for our lives.

Jesus said repent.

Repentance simply means change your mind and turn around. To do that may require some changes – every decision does. But without true repentance, a real turning away from everything that would keep you from your desire to know God, everything will stay the same.

God has a great future for each one of us, but He leaves the decision with us whether to follow it or not.

It may be bad habits, unhealthy relationships. It may be pointless striving to be be good enough (sometimes it’s the good things that are more likely to keep us from God’s best than the bad ones!). It may be that you have placed your trust in other things, thinking that they can offer you the peace and security you seek for. Whatever it is, lay it down, turn around and embrace God’s invitation to come to Him, and find forgiveness and restoration.

Then, Jesus said, believe the good news!

Jesus Christ Himself took all your sins and strivings upon Himself on the cross. Not one was left undealt with. His blood was poured out, covering each one of them so completely that every sin of mankind from the dawn of time to it’s last moment was atoned for, never to be remembered again.

This may not be easy to get your head round, but for sure, if you are willing, your heart can grasp the enormity of what Jesus Christ did for you on the cross.

Why did He have to die? That’s a BIG question. Suffice to say for now, He did it for you. Any penalty you had to pay, and judgement that was scratched up to your account, He took it all.

He became your substitute. He took your place, so that after He was raised from the dead, you could stand tall, knowing that everything that prevented you from knowing a holy God was moved out of the way.

All that remains is for you to accept His sacrifice for you personally. You don’t have to understand how it all works, just believe it!

Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me has everlasting life. (John 6:47)

Turn from dead works and vain attempts to please God in your own strength, forsake your sins, and embrace Christ’s promise of eternal life. The Bible says no amount of effort can earn it, and no amount of sin or shame can prevent it. Jesus really meant it when He said, “Whoever believes and comes to Me will be saved.”

Ask Him now to save you. Receive Him simply and honestly as your Lord and Saviour.

Pray (that means just open your heart and mouth and speak with God – He hears you!),

“Lord Jesus, I turn from sin and striving today, and accept you as my Lord and Saviour. Accept me as your own and lead me. Fill me with the Holy Spirit.”
