The real danger of religion and pseudo-spirituality is not that it outright opposes Jesus Christ. No, there is a far more frightening threat that looms across the spiritual landscape than obvious hatred for God. It is the veiled counterfeit. The counterfeit Christ.
Would the real Jesus Please Step Forward?
It is interesting to know that when the bible speaks of anti-Christ it refers to one like Christ, but not. One who could parade himself as a messiah for the masses and delude, if it were possible (and believe me it is!), even the elect. This is the real danger in the confusing days in which we now live.
Paul the Apostle speaks of the generation upon which the end of days has come. Many proposed, and even Hollywood bought into the drama of it, that 2012 would mark the end of the world. Well, there is still time, but I am pretty certain that we will most likely see it through to the New Year’s party in a few weeks time. Nevertheless, we would be foolish to presume that our generation will not see the second coming of Christ to the earth. We are already playing in injury time if the prophetic pictures throughout the Scriptures are to be trusted.
Before that great day of His coming however, another must come first. One that the Bible refers to as the anti-Christ. Only on rare occasions does the proud spirit known as satan enter personally into a man or woman to accomplish his nefarious purposes against mankind. He invaded a reptile in the Garden, possessed and directed the angry zealot, Judas, and in these last days, he will personally possess a political and religious figure known by the Scriptures as the anti-Christ, or the Man of Sin and lawlessness. Will this mysterious character be a butcher of people, a crazed dribbling lunatic screaming at the moon? Oh no, he will be one of the most charming, engaging, sympathetic, wise, powerful and irresistible individuals you will ever meet. How else do you think his plans for a unified world will be so eagerly embraced by hitherto divided populations?
Satan is the master deceiver. This, in reality, is his one and only weapon. If he cannot deceive, he cannot do anything else. Once deceived however, and individual can be convinced to believe, say and do almost anything.
A counterfeit Christ, with a Christless agenda, and a Godless solution to the overwhelming problems humanity will face in the years to come.
But where, who, when and how will this individual come? In a very practical way. In a way that appears to be the inevitable outcome of seemingly natural events and circumstances. Not with a forked tail, but a forked tongue. In the same spirit as the beguiling, mesmerising serpent of the garden.
Friends, let us not be ignorant of the times in which we live. Let us be certain that our thinking and our living is influenced by heaven’s agenda, and not that of the world, lest, when this world leader arises, we inadvertently follow him to our own destruction.
We may have slipped the net of yet another world’s end prediction, but with absolute certainty we are one year closer than we were on January 1st at the beginning of this year. Jesus return is ever closer, knocking on the door. And just as certain, the coming of the counterfeit.
Jesus’ advice for such a time as this? Watch. Pray.
